It’s No Surprise to the Industry: There was no Tsunami of Evictions.
Attorneys Chris Welch and Mark Zinman take a casual look at the 6 weeks that has passed in the courts, since the US Supreme Court held that the CDC eviction moratorium was unconstitutional. Contrary to speculation from numerous media and tenant advocates, there was no tsunami of evictions. In fact, evictions are still below their pre-pandemic levels, which indicates that property owners continue to work with their residents. Also, the attorneys discuss the US Department of Treasury’s decision to allow rental assistance to pay owners, even after the resident moves out. As always, we are advising our clients to work with their residents as much as possible, including after the residents have vacated.
